More tension within the British royal family. Prince William will be appointed Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps, despite Prince Harry having served with the unit in Afghanistan. Buckingham Palace has announced that the Prince of Wales will succeed King Charles as head of the regiment, in what represents a second coup for Harry in his brief return to the UK. According to tabloid reports, the honor would likely have been awarded to Harry had he not chosen to step down as a full member of the royal family in 2020. Both brothers are trained military pilots, however Harry personally served in the Army Air Corps during the his second tour in Afghanistan. “His Majesty the King will officially pass the role of Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps to His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales”, the statement on the matter.
Charles’s new snub towards his second son comes following it emerged yesterday that the king will not see his younger son during his current visit to the UK for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, an event which none of his immediate family will be attending of Meghan Markle’s husband. A spokesperson for Harry revealed that King Charles will not be able to see him during his trip due to his busy schedule, explaining that “The Duke naturally understands his father’s busy schedule and other priorities and hopes to see him soon.” The sovereign returned to work last week following news that he has made sufficient progress in his cancer treatment. However, his summer schedule will be reduced to avoid overexertion, as he is still undergoing treatment.
Prince Harry arrived in London yesterday morning on a flight from the United States, where he lives with his wife Meghan and their two young children, Archie, who turned 5 on Monday, and Lilibet. Harry had made no secret of wanting to meet his father, who was last seen last February at Clarence House, the residence where the monarch spends the night when he is in London and which at the time belonged to his grandmother, the Queen mother.
