The large sedan Toyota Avalon was originally created for the American market, and now the model is in service. fifth generationintroduced in 2018. But if in the best years Avalon found 90-100 thousand buyers a year in the States, then last year it managed to sell less than 20 thousand sedans. Therefore, the 2022 model year will be the last for the American Avalon, after which this five-meter sedan will be removed from production without an heir. The largest sedan in the American range will remain Camry.
But Avalon already has a spare foothold – China. The FAW-Toyota joint venture began production of these sedans at the end of 2018, and the success was immediate. More than 300 thousand cars have already been sold! In February of this year alone, 11,500 copies were sold. So in China, Toyota Avalon will live on, and now it has even been restyled.
The sedan has found other headlights and taillights, although they are almost the same as before. Running lights are now designed in the form of boomerangs in the entire width of the headlights. As before, for different configurations, there are two options for the radiator grille, but their design has been changed.
The most significant update in the cabin is a modern media system with a 10.1-inch screen instead of the previous nine-inch one. But to increase the display, I had to sacrifice all the hardware buttons and knobs: the control is now completely touch. And expensive equipment now flaunts not only a projection display (ten inches), but also virtual instruments (12.3 inches). By the way, the Chinese Camry has such an option. a year ago.
The technology is the same, and the Chinese Avalon has only a hybrid version with a four-cylinder aspirated 2.5 (178 hp) and an electric motor (120 hp), which in total give out 218 hp. There is no V6 engine in the Chinese range, but there are simple four-cylinder front-wheel drive options. The 2.0 engine (178 hp) is paired with a Direct Shift CVT (it has a mechanical first gear), and the 2.5 engine (209 hp) is paired with an eight-speed automatic.
The updated Toyota Avalon of local production has already entered the Chinese market, prices range from 32 thousand to 44 thousand dollars.
