“Five minutes before leaving, security arrives. We are asked to go home, we are told that there is no hotel, no taxi, but that we have to go back, ”laments Léopoldine, a traveler.
According to her, the situation is particularly difficult for families.
“I saw families next to me with children saying they were hungry, there were babies crying, old people.”
Léopoldine, like many others, finds herself without news from her air carrier, Air Canada.
Some have been at the airport for several days and still do not know when the next departure to their destination will be.
Another traveler, Ariane Marchand, says she was promised a place to sleep. ““We offer you a hotel”, but there was no more room so I stayed in the airport all night. If the plane doesn’t take off tonight, I don’t think I’ll leave and I’ll go back home.
Talking to your air carrier is not easy; people have been queuing for hours, some for more than five hours, to use the phone.
Chantal Messier, a traveler who managed to get the line on her cell phone following an hour of waiting, says she was told “there was no flight for today, tomorrow or Monday. , so I don’t even know if I’ll be able to leave Montreal to be with my family.
“This year is the worst I’ve seen,” she said.
