No goals scored before the derby

Zero goals, zero points: Upper Austria’s clubs in the women’s football Bundesliga have had anything but a perfect start. Newly promoted LASK lost 0-1 (0-1) to SPG FC Lustenau/Dornbirn, who had clearly beaten the black and whites 4-1 in the 2023/24 Cup.

SPG Blau-Weiß/Kleinmünchen suffered a painful 0:3 (0:1) home defeat against SK Sturm Graz, who have what it takes to be a top-four team and thus qualified for the championship round. There is not much time to be sad, as an absolute highlight of the season will take place on Sunday (12:45 p.m., ORF Sport+) with the first top-flight derby on the LASK pitch on Daimlerstrasse.

The athletes conceded the only goal in the Ländle in the 11th minute, scored by the Spaniard Marta Vidal Vela. In the final minutes, substitute LASK winger Florentina Wagner had a double chance to equalize (88th, 91st). It was not meant to be. “Our mistake was punished harshly, but I can’t blame the team for anything,” said coach Benjamin Stolte.

Blau-Weiß/Kleinmünchen kept the first half in the Hofmann-Personal-Stadion fairly open, but had to accept goals from Rebecca Scheffler (41st) and Pauline Deutsch (73rd, 79th).
