With two weeks until the Olympics start (July 26 to August 11), the city of Paris is confident that the water quality of the Seine is good enough to hold the games there as planned. “We have no doubt that we will be able to hold the competition as scheduled,” said Pierre Rabadin, the deputy mayor of Paris who is in charge of the competition.

Recently, the water quality of the river has met the standard eight out of ten days. According to the city’s latest analysis of water quality as of Tuesday, six of the past seven days measured were in compliance with Olympic regulations. More than 80% of water quality analyzes met the limits.

Heavy rains caused localized deterioration of water quality in Paris itself and upriver rivers, from where pollutants reach the capital.

As the city highlighted, the unusually wet weather and low temperatures negatively impacted water quality. Because the Seine is warmer and has lower water levels, pathogens break down faster.
