According to ONEE, all districts of the city of Saidia are regularly supplied with drinking water.

In reaction to the videos circulating on social networks, ONEE specifies that it has always mobilized all its human and technical resources in the city of Saïdia, especially in the summer, to communicate with customers, inquire regarding their concerns, study their files. and complaints, as well as guide them and respond to their interests as soon as possible.

The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water reacts to videos circulating on the social networks of an electronic site concerning the state of drinking water supply in the city of Saidia. A clarification has been issued to this effect denying any disruption in the supply of this vital substance, or complaints filed by the inhabitants with the Office. “All the districts of the city of Saidia are regularly supplied with drinking water”, underlined in this regard the regional directorate of the National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) – water branch – of the Oriental.

And to add that “the Office supplies downtown Saidia with drinking water from underground water resources through water boreholes in the Ahfir region, while the seaside resort, whose number of Office customers currently stands at 22,000 customers, is supplied from the Berkane wastewater treatment plant”. The demand for water, adds the same source, is experiencing a significant increase mainly linked to the large influx, during the summer and at weekends, of the Moroccan community residing abroad (MRE) and Moroccan and foreign holidaymakers. in the city of Saidia, especially in this circumstance characterized by a decrease in water resources due to water stress and successive years of drought in the Oriental region.

The Office always wants to mobilize all its human and technical resources in the city of Saidia, especially in the summer, to communicate with customers, inquire regarding their concerns, study their files and complaints, as well as guide them and respond to their interests as soon as possible. And to add that the intervention teams in the field belonging to the Office and the subcontracting companies work permanently and continuously upon receipt of the complaints to repair the leaks, following having detected or noted them, in order to improve the performance of the drinking water network, to preserve this vital material and supply the population with drinking water, recalling that the Office concluded, in this respect, a framework contract before the start of the current summer season, relating to the detection of water leaks and their repair at the Saidia center, accompanied by a commitment to respect the results expected by the company.

To ensure and improve the conditions for supplying the town of Saidia with drinking water, with regard to its tourist character and the economic and social development experienced by this town, the Office has programmed and implemented major projects and investments, in particular the project for the rehabilitation and repair of the drinking water distribution network, for an estimated budget of 18 million dirhams (MDH), the operation of which began in June 2023, stressing that “this project has contributed significantly to overcoming the disruptions in the supply of drinking water that certain neighborhoods have experienced in recent years, particularly during peak periods which coincide with the rise in temperatures and the influx of MREs and Moroccan and foreign holidaymakers who are currently supplied with drinking water on a continuous basis.

It also involves the project to extend the Berkane wastewater treatment plant, with an additional flow estimated at 130 liters per second, in order to meet the high demand for drinking water and meet the drinking water needs of inhabitants of the cities of Berkane and Saïdia, continues the press release, noting that this project was carried out with an estimated budget of 53 MDH, the operation of which had already started in July 2023. The Office stressed that it remains at the disposal of its customers to provide them with additional clarifications, and that “its teams are working hard to ensure the supply of drinking water to the city of Saïdia in the best conditions”.
