NEWARK – The New Jersey club sent defenseman Seamus Casey to the Utica Comets reserve team, which plays in the AHL.

The partner of defender Šimon Nemec had a great start to the season when he scored four (3+1) points in the first 8 games. On the contrary, the Slovak guard has not yet scored.

“He played an incredible role for us, he really helped us at the start of the season when we were struggling with injuries. He did a really good job.” Casey’s coach Sheldon Keefe said.

Luke Hughes and Brett Pesce should return to the Devils defense soon. Both are currently training as substitutes. The coaching team thus solved the question of which of the players will pack up and move to the American Hockey League after the arrival of the two defensive leaders.

The German trained today with defender Daniil Misiuľ, whom the team brought from Utica.

Casey was drafted in 2022, New Jersey selected the skilled right-hander in the 2nd round as the 46th overall.

Alright, ladies and gentlemen, gather ’round because we’ve got ourselves a hockey situation here! Picture it: Newark, where the ice is colder than your ex’s heart, and the New Jersey Devils are ice skating through a season that’s off to a rather… interesting start.

In a twist that could only happen in professional sports, the New Jersey Devils decided to send defenseman Seamus Casey packing to the AHL’s Utica Comets—presumably to make room for their two returning defensive stars. Now, let’s be honest, if you’re struggling to make the roster, the last thing you want to hear is, “We love ya, kid, but we need the real talent back in.” It’s like being told you’ve been voted off the island right after you finally learned how to build a fire!

Seamus came out of the gate strong—scoring three goals and one assist in his first eight games—but alas! The poor lad has been sent to find his hockey shoes in Utica after hitting a little bit of a scoring slump. Meanwhile, Šimon Nemec, our Slovak friend, is still waiting for that puck to land on his stick and go into the net. I mean, c’mon, it’s like waiting for a date who keeps saying, “I’m on my way,” but you find out they’re still in their pajamas! Get it together, mate!

Coach Sheldon Keefe praised Casey for stepping up when the team was riddled with injuries. It’s like being the last person left at a party and being forced to dance with your own reflection in the mirror for entertainment. He did a “really good job” despite facing adversity. Claps for Seamus, everybody! 👏 Imagine the pep talk: “Look, you may not be on the big stage anymore, but at least you can get some good Instagram content while you’re down there!”

But let’s not forget the impending return of Luke Hughes and Brett Pesce. It’s a defenseman revolution waiting to happen, and it appears Casey’s trip to Utica is a ticket to the minors rather than a feature film in the star-studded lineup. And here’s a hot tip for the coaching staff: if you’re trying to decide who’s leaving, how about a good old-fashioned rock-paper-scissors? It’s definitely more entertaining than making them pack their bags and get a one-way ticket to hockey purgatory!

Now, let’s wrap this little chatter box up. Hockey is a dog-eat-dog world, and sometimes it takes a young player a bit to crack the code. There’s always room for development and growth—the only thing left is for Nemec to turn that ‘goose egg’ into a ‘hockey egg’—wait, that sounded better in my head.

So here’s to the Devils, who are tossing their players around like a game of hot potato! Let’s hope for a swift return for Casey, and who knows? Maybe he’ll make a triumphant comeback… or at the very least, he can help out at the minor league games with his charisma. That’ll sell tickets! Stay tuned, folks; this hockey saga is just getting started!
