The National Committee’s counterpart had narrowly accepted the parliamentary initiative last February. Since basic insurance is mandatory, the majority argued, advertising serves neither prevention nor health promotion and therefore does not provide any added value. The corresponding costs should therefore not be financed by premiums. Furthermore, the current practice would no longer be acceptable in light of the ever-increasing premiums.
