Cal Gymnastics Takes Down clemson in ACC Debut

The No. 7 California Golden bears made a statement in their inaugural ACC meet, defeating No. 24 Clemson 196.925-196.225 in a thrilling home opener at Haas Pavilion.

The Bears showcased their dominance throughout the competition, securing at least a share of all five individual event titles and racking up an impressive 17 podium finishes. Senior Ella Cesario etched her name in the record books, claiming her first career all-around victory with a season-high 39.475. Senior Maddie Williams,riding high from the previous week’s success,secured second place with a solid 39.450, while junior eMjae Frazier rounded out the top three with a 39.425.

While Clemson’s second-year program delivered their highest team score of the season, fueled by Brie Clark’s standout 9.900 on the floor exercise, the Golden Bears proved too powerful, relying on their undeniable individual brilliance.

Cal’s victory began on the vault, where they soared to a season-high score of 49.175. Cesario claimed the event title with a career-high 9.900, closely followed by sophomore Kyen Mayhew with a 9.875. Williams and Lauzon demonstrated the team’s depth by tying for third with scores of 9.825.

The momentum carried over to the uneven bars, with Cesario again leading the charge, earning a season-high 9.925. Frazier followed closely with a 9.900, while williams and sophomore Casey Brown secured a shared third place with scores of 9.875. This display of strength propelled Cal to a season-high event score of 49.400 at the time.
