NITI Aayog meeting: PM Modi calls for an investor-friendly charter; ranks states on the basis of index

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for a nationwide investor-friendly charter and for the National Transformation Commission to develop an index to rank states’ ability to attract investment.Besides, the Prime Minister endorsed the idea of ​​achieving zero poverty at the village level while appreciating the proposal for skill census and linking rivers within and between states.

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the 9th Council meeting of the India Transformation Council, which focused on ‘Sustainable India’ and ease of living.

The meeting was attended by 26 chief ministers and lieutenant governors of Union territories, while those of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Bihar, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand and Puducherry were absent, with most of them boycotting the meeting.

Briefing the media after the day-long meeting, NITI committee CEO BVR Subrahmanyam said the Prime Minister also asked the states to prepare their own vision plans in line with the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047.

Subramaniam said the prime minister also urged states to strengthen their regions as drivers of economic growth and raised the issue of cybersecurity threats, saying states were more vulnerable to them. Subramaniam said another important issue raised by some states was population management. “There are two aspects to managing population. One is taking care of the ageing population and the second is managing population growth,” he said.

The Indian government believes that India is expected to become the world’s third largest economy with a GDP exceeding US$5 trillion, and hopes to become a US$30 trillion economy by 2047.

The report said that to achieve the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047, collaboration between the central and state governments is required.

In addition, the Council also discussed key areas such as drinking water, electricity, sanitation, education, and land and property with the aim of improving the convenience of living.

The Indian government is awaiting responses from states on the Viksit Bharat package and is expected to finalize the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision document within a month and a half.
