Nissan Qashqai e-power: What is the point of the solution with a petrol engine that only generates electricity

The driving experience is actually very close to that of an electric car, especially since the petrol engine works very cautiously even when you step on the gas pedal. Engineers have worked diligently to increase performance and sound in a similar fashion, eliminating an annoying discrepancy between engine RPM and road speed. The Nissan drives quietly and appears effortless even under full acceleration. And the combustion engine can always work in the optimum speed range, which has a positive effect on fuel consumption. Nissan states an average of 5.3 liters, we drove the Nissan – with a very gentle driving style – with 5.2 liters. However, on the roads around Stockholm, where triple-digit speeds are rarely allowed. Tests with us will show how the e-power performs on local roads.

If you want to move faster, that’s no problem. Even if the electric motor is decisive for the driving characteristics, there is no kick in the back when accelerating. The Qashqai e-power accelerates to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds. In order to maximize performance, the e-Power energy management system can transfer the power generated by the 1.5-liter engine directly to the electric motor via the inverter in high-acceleration or high-speed situations. The pleasant thing for the driver is that he hardly notices the cleverly controlled power flow in the engine compartment – unless he has time to keep an eye on the corresponding display.
