Resende, Brazil – Nissan has just completed 23 years in Brazil and is preparing for a new stage in the country and in South America, aligned with its Ambition 2030 global plan. In a ceremony held today at its Resende Industrial Complex, in the state of Rio de Janeiro January, the Japanese company announced that it will expand its 2023-2025 investment plan, reaching up to R$2.8 billion, to produce two new sports utility vehicles (SUVs) and assemble a turbo engine.

In front of 2,400 people, including all employees of the industrial unit, authorities and guests, Makoto Uchida, President and CEO of Nissan Motor Co., revealed the company’s next steps in the country. He was accompanied by Cláudio Castro, Governor of the state of Rio de Janeiro, and Nissan’s main regional and local executives.

“Guided by our vision Ambition 2030 and taking into account the needs and realities of Brazil and South America, we have a local strategy that will guarantee our transformation in the coming years. We need to demonstrate our commitment with new actions to build a solid foundation and continue to evolve even further and thus contribute to achieving our global objectives”, said Makoto Uchida, President and CEO of Nissan Motor Co., during the ceremony.

The investment will allow the installation of new equipment, expansions in the production line and the evolution of processes at the Nissan complex in Resende to allow the manufacture of two new SUVs. One of the models will have the mission of continuing the successful lineage of the Nissan Kicks, which is a success for the brand in Brazil and around the world.

The development plan also includes the engine factory, which is part of Nissan’s industrial park and was the place where the company held the investment announcement ceremony. It will assemble a new and modern turbo engine to be adopted in the brand’s models.

Opened in April 2014, Nissan’s “young” Brazilian industrial complex will undergo its first major evolution and consolidate its vocation as a hub of export. The unit, which already serves, in addition to the Brazilian market, some markets in South America, should start exporting one of its new vehicles to more than 20 countries.

As part of this process to receive new products, always focusing on manufacturing quality, the industrial complex has been operating in two shifts since 2022, which at the time led to the hiring of over 578 new employees. Nissan will also expand the presence of partners around its unit. Just before the official ceremony, four new suppliers confirmed that they will set up shop next to the Resende factory.

Nissan’s investments in Brazil reach R$6.2 billion in 10 years

Nissan’s new investment in Brazil reinforces the consistency of the company’s strategy in the national market and throughout South America. For its construction, the Resende Industrial Complex received, at the time, R$ 2.6 billion, which to this day It is one of the largest amounts invested in a car factory in the country.

The result is that the Resende unit follows modern manufacturing standards, aligned with the best environmental and quality practices, and has a complete production cycle. To this end, within the complex, there is a printing area and test tracks, including sheet metal, painting, plastic injection, assembly and quality inspection. In the years following its inauguration, other investments were made for improvements, adoption of new technological resources and evolution of infrastructure and ergonomics aimed at the well-being of employees.

Thus, the investments made by Nissan in Brazil, including those that now guarantee the production of the two new SUVs and the assembly of the turbo engine, total R$6.2 billion over 10 years.

Record crowd attends the ceremony inside the Nissan Industrial Complex

More than 2,400 people attended the official announcement ceremony at the Nissan Industrial Complex in Resende, setting a new all-time attendance record for an event there. The previous figure was 1,800 people, reached during the Olympic Torch Relay passing through the Resende factory in 2016, when Nissan was the official sponsor of the Games.

In addition to the record audience that was present to watch the announcement, the ceremony was also watched online by employees, dealers and journalists from Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Peru.
