Rome Italy – The Nissan Formula E Team secured their first podium finish of the 2022/2023 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship Season at the Rome E-Prix, with Norman Nato taking an outstanding second place in Round 14 on Sunday.

After showing a strong performance in qualifying, the French rider started the 24-lap race in third, advancing to second early in the race and maintaining a competitive pace throughout the race, with incredible defensive maneuvers in the final laps. , to conquer the podium. At round 13 on Saturday, Nato was caught out by a late red flag in qualifying, which derailed his last-lap efforts and saw him start from mid-pack. But an impressive battle fought after the red flag towards the end of the race allowed him to advance to 7th place, scoring 6 points.

Sacha Fenestraz qualified third at round 13 on Saturday, with a quick start that took him into the race lead, which he held for several laps. Unfortunately, the long interruption with the red flag and the confusion regarding the number of laps in the race caused the French-Argentine driver to exceed his energy consumption, which forced him to start saving and fall into the pack, ending the test in tenth.

Already at the round on Sunday, an electrical problem in one of the common components prevented him from participating in the third free practice session and qualifying and, during the race, a technical problem forced him to make a pit stop. Fenestraz crossed the finish line in 16th place.

Formula E returns to racing for the final two rounds of Season 9 in two weeks’ time, when the series heads to London for rounds 15 and 16.

Tommaso Volpe, General Manager and Head of the Nissan Formula E Team:
“We confirmed our pace once again this weekend, especially in qualifying. Sacha started third on Saturday and Norman was caught out by a red flag, while on Sunday Norman started third but Sacha had an electrical problem. The first race this weekend didn’t do us any favors. Sacha moved up from third to first place early on and held the lead for several laps. However, after the red flag, there was some confusion regarding the number of laps in the race. This was corrected with a few laps at the restart, but by then Sacha had already exceeded consumption with the lead and had to slow down, losing several positions. On Sunday, Norman had an excellent race. He damaged the front wing a little early on, but kept moving forward and gained a position, which he defended very well until the end of the race, securing a podium finish. It’s really cool to see how intensely everyone worked as a team against the clock over the weekend to achieve this result, despite the challenges we faced. Now we want to take that pace and team spirit to London to finish the season at a high level there.”

Norman Nato:
“I’m quite happy with today’s performance, we were happy with qualifying but we knew the race would be more difficult. I felt really good in the car all weekend, the energy part was tough but I managed it well. The strategy was perfect, we fought a lot and that demonstrates the progress we have made as a team this season. It was also amazing to score points on both days, we managed to come back strong on Saturday and we deserved that top 10 finish.

Sacha Fenestraz:
“I was happy with qualifying on Saturday on a difficult track and was feeling good in the lead, but after the red flag there was some confusion about the number of laps in the race and when we realized it I would have to save more energy. than expected and that cost us several positions. Sunday was frustrating with an electrical issue, which saw us miss out on qualifying, but the team did a fantastic job to get us back on track for the race. We clearly had the potential for a strong result this weekend and that was demonstrated by Norman. It’s really cool to see him on the podium and we look forward to racing at the front of the pack again in London.”
