YOKOHAMA, Japan – The Nissan Formula E Team is ready to tackle the Jakarta E-Prix this weekend and build on the positive performance shown in Monaco. On the streets of Monte Carlo the team achieved its best result of the season, with its drivers Sacha Fenestraz and Norman Nato qualifying in the top 3 in qualifying and Fenestraz finishing fourth in the race.
Now, the championship returns to Jakarta following the debut race in the Indonesian capital the previous season. This year, the city will host a double round and drivers and teams will have to face difficult conditions in both races. With temperatures expected to exceed the 30⁰C mark and air humidity expected to be extremely high, the new Gen3 cars – which debut in Season 9 – will undergo a test like no other on the Formula E calendar.
Located in the northern part of Greater Jakarta and within walking distance of Ancol Beach, the 2.4km circuit features 18 corners, with the best passing opportunities located at Turns 1 and 16. These areas of heavy braking and the winding high-speed intermediate sector are the perfect combination to create a challenging layout for both cars and drivers.
In the two days of competition, the Qualifying sessions start at dawn, at 00:40 (Brasília time) and the two races will start at 05:03. Click here to know where to watch.
Tommaso Volpe, General Manager and Head of the Nissan Formula E Team:
“We’ve been working hard since Monaco to have the best possible conditions to boost our performance and maintain regularity, which has been a challenge for us this year. We’ve definitely managed to make improvements since the last round, so our goal is to consolidate the work done and continue our improvements. Jakarta will be difficult for everyone. Very hot, humid and extremely exhausting for the drivers, this double round will also be very demanding for all teams, mainly due to the weather conditions. So our focus is on getting the best set-up to keep the car as cool as possible and take care of tire management. Now, our target for the rest of the season is to get more consistency and be able to fight with both cars for points. Jakarta will be a challenge, but we are all ready to face it.”
Sacha Fenestraz:
“This will be the hottest race of the year and everyone is telling me how hard it is going to be! But I’m really excited to be racing following our best weekend of the season in Monaco. We are happy and in a great mood as a team, in the midst of preparations for Jakarta. We will focus on repeating our performance in Monaco and showing that it was not a one-off success, so this will be an important race for us. The track looks interesting, similar to Monaco and Cape Town in terms of some corners and track features, so I hope it will be an amazing weekend.”
Norman Nato:
“I’m really excited to race in Jakarta, which is going to be a new circuit for me. It will be really hard physically for the teams and drivers due to the high temperatures. We will work to build on the pace we showed in Monaco and hope to get both cars into the points. Getting second and third in qualifying was an incredible achievement, but we always have to look to improve and keep increasing regularity. This weekend we need to turn that pace into two strong races to cement an excellent restart in the second half of the season.”
