YOKOHAMA, Japan – The Nissan Formula E team is ready for rounds 2 and 3 of the 2022/23 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, the first double round of the Gen3 era in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia.
After a promising start to the campaign in Mexico, where Sacha Fenestraz impressed as he reached the duels in qualifying, he and teammate Norman Nato are eyeing the points in the only night races
First held in Season 5, the Diriyah E-Prix went to night the following year and has since become a favorite with fans and drivers alike. At 2,495 kilometres, the Riyadh Street Circuit is best known for the stretch between turns 6 and 14, which is often compared to a sleigh race in the snow thanks to its downhill nature and fast, flowing corners. And it should be even more spectacular this weekend with the fastest Gen3 cars.
“I feel like we have grown as a team following the season opener in Mexico,” said Tommaso Volpe, Managing Director of the Nissan Formula E Team. “Norman and Sacha already have a good connection with the engineers and the technical team is also gaining a lot of knowledge. on how to drive the car in qualifying and in the race. We’re still learning regarding the power unit and power management, but that’s the same all over the world. grid. So let’s try to keep developing that side. Diriyah will be a completely different challenge to Mexico, with tight walls and a dirty track. We believe we can pick up points this weekend.”
As part of a three-year agreement, Petromin Nissan will be the team’s official Innovation Partner for the event. As an authorized Nissan dealer in Saudi Arabia, this collaboration aims to strengthen the relationship between Petromin Nissan and Nissan, demonstrating the commitment to innovation and customer service shared by the brands.
“This collaboration is further confirmation of the importance of our involvement in sport as a corporation,” commented Volpe. “Our Formula E project not only promotes but also actively supports our corporate objectives in terms of electrification and sustainability – the two fundamental pillars of Formula E and the main objectives of Nissan and Petromin Nissan.”
Sacha Fenestraz
“I am very excited for Diriyah and the next event in this incredible championship. Even though we had some problems in Mexico and we didn’t get any points, we still showed what we are capable of in qualifying and in the race. Diriyah is one of the toughest tracks on the calendar. I’ve been working hard on the sim and it’s a proper street track with tight walls and quick changes of direction. I am very optimistic following the first test. I hope to improve our performance and use all the knowledge we acquired there. It will be challenging as it’s another new track for me, but it looks like a lot of fun and I can’t wait to get out there and do my best.
Norman Nato
“We will have to be mentally and physically prepared for the challenge as it is difficult for drivers and teams. It’s also the only time we’re racing at night this season, which is really cool visually. After a difficult start in Mexico, we are aiming for a more positive weekend as we know we have the potential in the team and the car to be in the top ten. The Diriyah track is tough, with grip levels constantly changing, but it’s really fun and rewarding when you put in a good lap. I’m looking forward to it and hopefully we can end the weekend with some points.
