YOKOHAMA, Japan – The Nissan Formula E team travels to the fascinating destination of Monte Carlo to contest this weekend’s Monaco E-Prix as Season 9 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship enters its second half.
Norman Nato and Sacha Fenestraz will be looking to bounce back in the principality following a challenging weekend in Berlin. The pair are chasing good points at a venue where both have enjoyed previous success in a number of single-seater categories over their track racing years.
Formula E first raced in Monaco in Season 1 and was run on a shorter course for the first three years. In 2021, the series used a very close variation of the Grand Prix circuit, albeit with some minor differences, before switching to the instantly recognizable 3.337 kilometer layout in 2022.
Tommaso Volpe, General Manager and Director of the Nissan Formula E Team:
“Going to Monaco is always special for anyone involved in motorsport, as its history makes it one of the best races on the calendar. We expect energy management to be the main topic of the weekend due to the circuit’s many elevation changes, quite unusual for Formula E and will impact everyone. With that in mind, the tendency of cars to tow and not want to lead should continue here, so it’s regarding turning the situation to an advantage while chasing good points. We found some solutions to the problems we had in Berlin thanks to the team’s good work in the Rookie Test, so our aim is to implement them effectively and be more competitive here.”
Norman Nato:
“I am really excited to race in Monaco. It’s an amazing place with such an outstanding history. I’ve never competed in an official World Championship event here, so it’s a privilege to be able to do so. It’s a track I have fond memories of having won here twice in my junior career, so I can’t wait for the weekend to start. We had a tough time in Berlin, but the aim is to bounce back. The rookie test gave us a great opportunity to find some solutions and I’m optimistic that we’ve made progress. Our potential has been high at times this season and I intend to show that and get back into the points as we think Monaco should serve us.”
Sacha Fenestraz:
“Driving in Monaco is always a dream. I’ve lived here for many years, but I still get emotional every time I step onto the circuit. It’s always a challenge to overtake, so qualifying will be more important than usual this weekend. The aim is to unleash our potential and bring some points to the team. I have already won here in karting and in junior formula, so I hope I can use this experience to help the team.”
