(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Joo-Hwan Kim = Nintendo has released ‘Tears of the Kingdom’, the sequel to the mega hit ‘The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild’.

According to the game industry on the 14th, Nintendo released information on a number of new games, including The Legend of Zelda, through the online event ‘Nintendo Direct’ the night before.

At this event, Nintendo unveiled the trailer for ‘Tears of the Kingdom’ (TOTK, Tears of the Kingdom), a new IP for ‘The Legend of Zelda’ to be released on the Nintendo Switch, and confirmed the release date for May 12 next year.

TOTK is the sequel to the 2017 legend of Zelda ‘Breath of the Wild’ (BOTW, Breath of the Wild).

BOTW, which is regarded as a landmark game in the open world genre, was awarded the ‘Game of the Year’ by the American Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences (AIAS) and the Game Developers Conference (GDC) right after its release. It was also selected as one of ‘Top 10 Video Games of the 2010s’ by TIME magazine in the US.

According to Nintendo’s announcement, BOTW has sold over 27 million copies worldwide since its release until the second half of this year.
