It’s a huge blow what has just been said Nintendo to fans of a whole country, prohibiting all inhabitants from accessing not only games developed by Nintendo, but also games that are available on the Eshop, created by other companies.
Nintendo’s decision is causing a lot of noise when all game publishers have received the same email: From May 31, 2023, no more games can be purchased from the Nintendo Eshop in Russia and the “punishment” may not be lifted any time soon!
Russia banned from Nintendo Eshop indefinitely
Nintendo is not the first company to impose this kind of sanction on Russia, the list contained names like Sony, Microsoft, Electronic Arts, Activision Blizzard and many other industry players.
Besides, the future isn’t exactly hopeful for the Russians either. Indeed, Nintendo made it clear in its email to developers that the Nintendo Eshop would remain closed for Russia. until further noticeno details having been given, we can imagine that it is not regarding to stop.
What features are cut and what solutions for the Russians?
To put it simply: it is simply no longer possible, at all, for people living in Russia to carry out the smallest purchase on the Nintendo Eshop. Whether we’re talking regarding old games or new releases like the latest Zelda, absolutely nothing is buyable, not even a Russian game.
The only thing that remains possible for the Russians is to re-download games that they had already acquired in the past, but had deleted from their console. Good news since the Eshop had remained in maintenance since Winter 2022 in Russia, preventing players from making these downloads.
However, solutions have begun to emerge and do not necessarily please everyone, far from it. Indeed, to counter the blockade of Nintendo, which therefore only applies to games in their digital version, many Russian retailers have started to make importer their games from other countries, in order to be able to distribute them to their players, even once morest Nintendo’s agreement.
Of course, such practices remain limited, by the stock, but also by the basic language of the cartridges, not sure that all Russians speak Chinese to play Zelda.
For the moment, the Russians will therefore have to be content with it, but we might also see an increase in the number of hacked versions of the game in circulation on Russian territory, a situation which might not please the Japanese firm which is in active war once morest cracked copies of its games!
