Rumors regarding a successor or a pro version of the Nintendo Switch have been floating around the web for years. Now someone who should know has commented on the Japanese company’s new device. According to Activision boss Bobby Kotick, don’t expect too much performance from the console.
Even if it was technically outdated when it was released in 2017, the Nintendo Switch is extremely popular. The Japanese company has already sold more than 125 million units, making it Nintendo’s most successful home console. When it comes to handhelds, it’s only beaten by the Nintendo DS, which has sold a whopping 154 million units.

However, the mentioned lousy technology is increasingly causing problems and rumors regarding a successor or at least a Pro version have been circulating the net for years now. Nothing is official yet and according to Nintendo, a new console will appear in the coming fiscal year at the earliest. That means: following April 1, 2024.
Activision CEO Bobby Kotick spoke at the FTC hearing on Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard King. However, he not only commented on the controversial purchase, he also spoke regarding the successor to the Nintendo Switch.
He is currently in talks with Nintendo regarding the new console and can therefore say that one should not expect too big a leap in performance. According to Kotick, the new switch will be significantly weaker than the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Rather, it should be on the level of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Kotick also states that Activision massively underestimated the success of the switch. Accordingly, it was far too late to start developing titles for the hybrid console. You deeply regret that and for this reason you are already in intensive talks with Nintendo.
