Nintendo takes advantage of the success of “Wii Sports” and transfers the concept to its Nintendo Switch console. As announced by the company in a recent presentation video, the game will be available towards the end of April.
“Nintendo Switch Sports” will bring sports such as tennis, bowling, soccer, badminton, volleyball and chambara (a kind of sword fighting) to the screen. The game is controlled using the motion-sensitive Joy-Con controllers. These can be attached to the wrists with straps, or to the leg with an elastic band, and transmit their own movements to the game character.
“Nintendo Switch Sports” can be played locally with multiple players on the same console, or online once morest users around the world. This requires paid access to Nintendo Switch Online. Golf continues to be conspicuous by its absence, but other disciplines are not excluded for later download (perhaps for a fee).
Nintendo Switch Sports is the sequel to “Wii Sports”, the motion game for the Wii console released in 2006. According to Nintendo, “Wii Sports” has so far sold more than 80 million units worldwide. “Nintendo Switch Sports” has similar potential: Nintendo reports that, since 2017, around 103 million units of the Switch in its three versions have been sold.
In addition to Nintendo Switch Sports, the brand announced other news, additions and updates for the Switch.
“Mario Strikers Battle League” is a unique soccer game that brings together Mario, his friends, and his opponents on the playing field. Figures are highly configurable and have countless unique special abilities, including tornado and tortoise shells. The game for eight players with online mode and club league will be released on June 10.
“Mario Kart 8 Deluxe” will receive 48 new tracks via download. The colorful kart racing game with Mario, Bowser and company will be supplemented, among other things, by reworked race tracks from previous editions. Among them are the Coconut Mall, the Mario Kart N64 chocolate swamp or tracks in the clouds or in Paris. The first tracks of the booster pass will be available from March 28.
“Kirby and the Forgotten Land” brings Nintendo’s cute pink ball in 3D to the Switch. The colorful platformer introduces Kirby’s new abilities, including attacks, item crafting, and absurdly fantastic visuals. Waddle Dees Little Critter Rescue will be available starting March 25.
A good five years following its release on PC, Xbox and PlayStation, “No Man’s Sky” now also comes to the Switch. The space game in a huge universe of algorithmically generated stars and planets has been somewhat vaguely announced for mid-2022.
Other news: Among other things, “Xenoblade Chronicles 3” will be released in September, while “Fire Emblem” continues with “Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes” at the end of June.
The launch of the new installment of “Advance Wars”, initially scheduled for April 8, has been postponed without a new date due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
