News business Nintendo Switch Online: number of subscribers and income, the online service tells us more
Nintendo isn’t as aggressive in the online market as some of its competitors, that’s a fact. However, the Japanese manufacturer is indeed present on the market thanks to its Nintendo Switch Online… and it still brings in a good package of tickets.
The Nintendo Switch Online is detailed
Although Nintendo’s policy is not fully focused on online gaming, the Japanese are not completely on the sidelines. Some titles like Splatoon 3 or Animal Crossing New Horizons (or the tireless Mario Kart 8 Deluxe) rely heavily on multiplayer, while a whole catalog of old-school games are offered via the Nintendo Switch Online subscription, costing 19.99 euros per year. Recently, the manufacturer also offers the extension pass, giving access to Nintendo 64 and Mega Drive games for an additional 19.99 euros. (per year, always).
However, nWe didn’t really have any details on the health of the service: these were given to us by Microsoft – a height! – in its takeover of Activision-Blizzard, recently approved by the Brazilian regulator, CADE. Within the validation file, information on the Nintendo Switch Online is then revealed to us: the service brought in almost a billion dollars last year.
Everything rolls
In 2021, Nintendo Switch Online earned $932 million in revenue from paid subscriptions.the cheapest on the market, we recall it with a ridiculous price of €19.99 per year at least. The service also had, in September 2021, no less than 32 million subscribers and then accounted for 31% of Nintendo’s total digital revenue of $3.054 billion and 8% of Nintendo’s overall video game revenue ($14.350 billion).
For comparison, among the competition and the latest news, Sony’s PlayStation Plus has around 47.4 million subscribers while Xbox Game Pass has 25 million. Figures that make you dizzy.
