A Nintendo would be in negotiations with the Samsung to use OLED screens from the South Korean company on the Switch 2, according to recent rumors released by the press. The Japanese company will stop using BOE displays in its next portable console.
According to rumors, Nintendo even considered using Chinese BOE’s OLED panels, but decided to use Samsung Display’s screens following the South Korean company filed a wide-ranging patent infringement lawsuit once morest BOE recently.
The lawsuit filed by Samsung alleges that BOE stole its intellectual property, cloned its technologies, and illegally sold these OLED panels. Therefore, Nintendo does not want to risk its portable console becoming involved in this problem.
In addition to Nintendo, Valve also reportedly negotiated a deal to obtain OLED panels from BOE at cheaper prices for the Steam Deck, but following Samsung Display’s lawsuit filed once morest BOE, both companies backed off their orders.
Samsung claims that BOE’s OLED panels infringe on five of the company’s display patents, including its ‘Diamond Pixel’ technology. In turn, BOE also sued Samsung in China in May 2023 once morest the allegations made by the South Korean company.
As this series of processes can take considerable time, customers do not want to get involved in this and are preferring OLED panels from Samsung Display. please note that other rumors suggest that the Nintendo Switch 2 should be released in March 2024.
