This June 21, following several weeks of uncertainty, the Nintendo Direct finally took place. In this new JV Debate, we will talk regarding the quality of the event and its announcements, but above all regarding Nintendo’s strategy.

Reheated at Nintendo?

We expected a lot from this Nintendo Direct. Of course, in addition to Pikmin 4 (already announced by Nintendo), we would have liked to see Star Fox, Golden Sun or Hollow Knight: Silksong once more. However, the publisher was not overzealous, instead focusing on ports and remasters. Other than Super Mario Bros. Wonder, there will be nothing new. And yet, we are still waiting for a new major open world title, like Super Mario Odyssey. It is likely that this next software is also planned for a Switch 2, which remains very mysterious. In short, we will have to wait for originality. In addition, most remastered or ported games are already available to players, but on the additional online service. Only, it is not highlighted and only interests niche fans. Finally, the company capitalizes on its past successes in a loop. You can find out more in the Debate at the top of the video.

Lots of surprises

This new Nintendo Direct was rich in emotion, in particular because the Pikmin license returns in a fourth opus. During the Nintendo Direct, we were able to see various regions, a night mode, and new creatures. In addition, it’s not as if the Japanese firm had been stingy this year. We got The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and we’re waiting for the just announced Mario Wonder. And the year still has many surprises in store for us. Exclusives continue to be regular despite the Switch’s end of life. On the other hand, ports are necessary so that players can play old titles, which become unplayable over time (Super Mario RPG is a good example) and to preserve video game heritage.
