To create the museum, Nintendo renovated an old factory built in 1969 that produced “hanafuda,” the traditional Japanese card games the company marketed when it was launched.

Reservations have been open on the manufacturer’s official website since August 20 via a lottery system. An adult ticket costs 3,300 yen, or about twenty francs.

In addition to its museum, the firm will open a new area dedicated to the character Donkey Kong in the immense Universal Studios Japan theme park in Osaka, in western Japan, by the end of the year.

Nintendo took its first steps in video games in 1977 with the launch of the very first home consoles TV Game 15 and TV Game 6. The company was also in the market of terminals and arcade games, such as the famous Donkey Kong released in 1981. Global success came with the Famicom console launched in Japan in 1983, and known in our latitudes as NES (for Nintendo Entertainment System).
