Nintendo has confirmed that it will not be attending E3 2023

It’s bad news for E3 2023. Nintendo just confirmed that it won’t be attending the event in Los Angeles this summer, and with that we now know that none of the “Big 3” video game companies with major consoles will be present at the shows.

As reported by IGN, the Japanese company sent them a statement revealing the decision. “We approach our participation in any event on a case-by-case basis and are always thinking of different ways to interact with our fans. Since this year’s E3 show didn’t fit into our plans, we made the decision not to participate. However, we have been and continue to be strong supporters of ESA and E3.”

E3 will be back, even without the Big 3

We’ve been reporting on E3’s big return to physical form for a few months, ever since the European Space Agency revealed that the show would return to the Los Angeles Convention Center in June 2023. Since then, many companies and industry executives have offered their opinions on the show. A few weeks ago, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot cast doubt on the show actually happening, but stated that they would be in if it did happen.

ESA and ReedPop (the event organiser) responded by stressing that they were “moving full speed” with the development of the event, and that even without some of the biggest companies in attendance, E3 would continue. Granted, it would be a completely different kind of event without Nintendo, PlayStation, or Xbox appearing at the show, but perhaps a change of heart would be good for the event. We’ll have to wait and see what E3 2023 actually has to offer both fans and the gaming press.

E3 2023 will take place in June 2023, at the Los Angeles Convention Center, as it did for more than a decade before 2019.
