While we thought that Nintendo would be one of the most notable absentees this summer, rumors regarding a Nintendo Direct are multiplying. An event might be announced tomorrow, June 20.
See you on June 20 for a new Nintendo Direct? At least that’s what the rumors suggest. Summer is the time for studios to present their projects, thanks in particular to the Summer Game Fest. In recent years, some publishers have preferred to disassociate themselves from this type of event by organizing their own conferences. Something Nintendo has been doing since 2011 with Nintendo Direct. Usually, the Japanese organize three big ones each year: in February, June and September. Only this year, hallway noises suggested that Big N was going to drop his summer date. “We approach our participation in any event on a case-by-case basis and consider different ways to engage with our fans. As this year’s E3 show was not in our plans, we made the decision not to participate.“, he said on Venturebeat.
Since then, no announcement has been made by the publisher itself, but the Brazilian site Universo Nintendo (known to have reliable sources) claims that a Nintendo Direct will take place. It will even be unveiled tomorrow, for broadcast the next day, the 21st or the 23rd at the latest.. It does not specify the format of the event (mini, indie showcase…) but it should not be dedicated exclusively to partner games (like last year). In themselves, these dates are not improbable. In 2022, we had to wait until June 28 to have news of Nintendo’s projects. It is often on this occasion that the Kyoto firm decides to present its games for the end of the year. Obviously, we won’t have to wait long to see if this information is true. If they are, this might be an opportunity to present Pikmin 4, scheduled for July 21. Nintendo also announced Everybody 1-2 Switch, the sequel to its mini-game compilation, as well as a new wave of DLC for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, planned for “Soon“.
A direct nintendo in June, and another in July?
We told you, for several months, rumors have been multiplying regarding a future Nintendo Direct. According to his sources, Jeff Grubb (journalist for Giant Bomb), has also indicated that another meeting would take place in July. He too does not specify whether it will be a classic event, a mini or a Partner Showcase. However, he immediately specified that such a date seemed “weird” to him. The publisher hasn’t made a major point in July since 2017. Still on the side of rumors, more and more fans are noticing updates on the firm’s official websites. This — usually — only happens when the company is regarding to release a presentation.
