The Japanese gaming company says sales over the past two quarters have been the best since the Nintendo Switch arrived in 2017. Business is going so well that the company has increased its profit forecast for the current financial year. Nintendo thinks it will rise to 500 billion yen (3.1 billion euros). The company previously estimated 450 billion yen.
Of Super Mario Bros. Movie hit theaters in April. It made many people warm up to games on the Switch. So became Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which was released six years ago, sold 3.2 million copies in the last quarter. This game is still by far the best-selling title on the Switch. Since 2017, the game has been sold 57 million times.
Also the new one Zeldagame is selling well. It was published in May this year and has now sold 19.5 million times. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildwhich was previously released on the Switch, has sold a total of 31 million copies.
Successor to Switch in the making
In Nintendo’s current fiscal year, which runs until March 2024, the company has sold 6.8 million Switch consoles to date. The group expects to sell 15 million this financial year. In total, the console has already been sold 132.5 million times. This makes the Switch more popular than the Nintendo Wii (101 million) and the Game Boy (118.7 million), among others.
Nintendo is reportedly working on a successor to the Switch. According to rumors, it should be released next year, although the company has not yet announced anything regarding it.
