Kevin Díaz was the victim of a group of irrational red fans who ended his life before a Guatemalan classic.
Nine years have passed since the murder of the fan of communications, Kevin Diaz; a violent act that brought national soccer to mourning and that led to a National League final being played for the only time without an audience in the stands of the Matero Flores National Stadium.
It was the morning of Sunday, April 27, 2014, the date on which the Guatemalan classic 278 between the two clubs with the most powerful fans in the country, Municipal and Comunicaciones, would be held at the Manuel Felipe Carrera de El Trébol Stadium.
Days prior to the celebration of this duel, it had been reported by cheerleaders that the visiting fans (Communications) would not be well received. Around 11:00 a.m., some fans appear, including Kevin Díaz, who was accompanied by his sister and his girlfriend.
Subsequently, a group of angry and violent fans seized him near a catwalk located near El Guarda. He received a strong beating that ended up taking his life.

final without public
The death of Kevin Díaz brought with it a historic decision by the Guatemalan federations. The finals of that championship, Clausura 2014, took place without the presence of the public, since they were disputed by Municipal and Communications.
At the end of the series, which took place at the Doroteo Guamuch Flores National Stadium, Comunicaciones ended up defeating Municipal with a 2-0 aggregate (0-1 in the first leg and 1-0 in the second leg). Both goals were scored by José Manuel Contreras and with this he gave the four-time championship to “Albo”.
