Trinity College Dublin recently hosted three prestigious ceremonies to honor the academic achievements of remarkable students from across Ireland and beyond. The awards, bestowed upon students entering their first year of full-time undergraduate degree programs, recognize those who achieve the highest points among Trinity entrants from their secondary schools, surpassing a minimum of 500 CAO points (or equivalent).
The awardees represent a remarkable cross-section of talent, hailing from 452 different schools in 30 counties across the island of Ireland and an notable 38 countries internationally. These ceremonies, held at Trinity’s historic Old Dining hall starting on January 21, 2025, brought together the honored students and their school principals for a memorable party of academic success.

Today, we shine a spotlight on Trinity College Dublin’s newly awarded Entrance Exhibition Scholars. We’re speaking with erica Oboroceanu, a recent graduate of St. Angela’s Secondary School in waterford, who was among the distinguished recipients of this prestigious award.
Archyde: Congratulations on receiving the Entrance Exhibition Award, Erica! What does this achievement mean to you?
“Thank you! Receiving this award is a truly humbling experience. It validates all the hard work I’ve put in during my secondary school years and motivates me to excel even further at Trinity. It’s an astounding honor to be recognized among such accomplished peers.”
Archyde: We noticed that several waterford County students received this award this year. Do you think there’s a specific reason Waterford is producing such academically brilliant students?
“I believe Waterford has a fantastic educational environment. Our schools foster a strong sense of community and academic ambition. There’s a real support network for students who strive for excellence, which I think plays a crucial role. We encourage each other and learn from one another. “
Archyde: As you embark on this new chapter at trinity, what are your aspirations for the future?
“My ultimate goal is to contribute meaningfully to society through my chosen field, which is [mention Erica’s field of study]. I hope to combine my academic knowledge with practical experience to make a real difference in the world. Trinity provides an remarkable platform for achieving these aspirations, and I’m incredibly excited to be a part of that journey.”
Archyde: What advice would you give to younger students who dream of achieving academic success?
“Remember that success is a journey, not a destination. It requires dedication, perseverance, and a healthy dose of self-belief. Don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone, embrace challenges, and learn from your mistakes. Surround yourself with supportive people who encourage your growth. And most importantly,never lose sight of your passion and what drives you to learn and excel.
