New Delhi: Negotiations have begun for the release of Nimisapriya, who is serving a death sentence in Yemen. The family of slain Talal Abdo Mahdi is demanding a fine of 50 million Yemeni riyals (approximately 1.52 crore rupees).
Yemeni officials have informed Nimisha Priya of her relatives’ decision to avoid the death penalty by accepting alms. Officials have called for a decision before the end of Ramadan. Documents related to the case will go to the Yemeni Supreme Court after the month of Ramadan.
Save Nimishapriya formed the International Action Council, headed by Justice Kurian Joseph, to coordinate mediation talks. Talal’s family announced their decision to donate money after the group held informal talks on his release.
The Union Ministry of External Affairs has also decided to intervene for the release of Nimishapriya. Moment Priya was arrested in 2017 in the Talal murder case.
