Nîmes Tragedy: Man Shot and Killed in Front of Son – Drug Trafficking Violence on the Rise

A few months following the death of young Fayed, in August, Nîmes was once once more the scene of a tragedy. This Tuesday, around 9 p.m., a man was shot and killed near a deal point, in the Chemin Bas district, in front of his 8-year-old son.

According to information from Midi Libre, the victim would be a 39-year-old Gardois man. The father would be known to the police. He would have been convicted “in the context of cases of violence, weapons and drugs” and would be monitored by a sentence enforcement judge. For the moment, the reasons for his presence near the deal point have not been determined.

Three bullets found

In a video circulating on social networks, the victim’s body appears lying on the ground, right next to his vehicle. According to BFMTV, the man was hit by three bullets: two of them were found at the level of the shoulder blades and a third under the ribs. Three 7.62 caliber shell casings were found at the crime scene. The caliber of the cartridge cases would correspond to that used for Kalashnikovs.

Three suspects were arrested Tuesday evening in Marseille, aboard a vehicle geolocated at the crime scene. The Nîmes public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation for “murder”. The investigations are entrusted to the Montpellier judicial police.

Nîmes, a city plagued by drug trafficking

Violence due to drug trafficking has been growing sharply in recent years in Nîmes, where three people were shot dead near drug trafficking points in 2023: a 39-year-old man in January, little Fayed in August, then a teenager. of 18 years forty-eight hours later, in all three cases in Pissevin.

According to figures from the former Nîmes prosecutor, Éric Maurel, these settling of scores, now qualified as “narchomicides”, left eight people dead in Nîmes in 2020 and three in 2021, including a 17-year-old teenager.
