Nîmes: a first winner of the Feri’Art competition speaks

Posters representing the Feria adorn the streets of the city center, a few days before this great celebration. The winner of the jury prize, an amateur artist, is proud to see her winning work.

Art for her is a “space of freedom”. Agnès Texier paints in her spare time and participated for the third consecutive year in the Feri’Art competition. This employee at the prefecture was surprised last April by the results revealed on the City Facebook page. For the first time, she emerged victorious and won the jury prize.

On the theme “Nîmes and its traditions”, 85 works were presented on the occasion of the Aficion Spring. Two winners were decided, a public prize and a jury prize.

Agnès Texier acknowledges that her 2022 creation is “of better quality than the previous ones, with more finesse”. She chose to represent Sevillian dancers, keeping in mind her criteria of aesthetics and tradition. Like most of the competitors, it features a bull, but here it remains discreet, we only see its silhouette. A choice of the artist, who wanted to avoid representations “controversies”. She describes her creation as “something neutral and festive”.

Deputy Mayor François Courdil, member of the jury, rents a poster “as open as possible” which shows “everything that makes the strength of our local identity”.

His painting protrudes above Boulevard Victor Hugo, near the Maison Carrée. Beside it is exhibited the creation of renowned artist Sandrine Marcon, winner of the public prize.
