On the banks of the Grand Canal in Venice, the Palazzo Vendramin Grimani is the recently restored setting of the Golden Tree Foundation which welcomes artists from all over the world, and who are inspired by Venice.
Since February 4, these are the photos of Nikos Aliagas that dress the walls of the Palace.
“Venetian Looks”, which the Franco-Greek journalist knew how to fetch far from the clichés of the Serenissima…
Nikos Aliagas has made several stays in Venice to immerse himself in the San Polo district, and mingle with the local population, often invisible to tourists.
Nikos Aliagas’ lens captured the daily life of campo San Polo, of the sestiere (district) that surrounds it, leaving it to the images to tell the stories of those who live and bring these places to life.
Nikos Aliagas’ images are in black and white: the artist explores contrasts, backlighting, movements in frames where line and curve come together whether on a face or on a street corner.
Some inhabitants of the district (Sestiere) whom he photographed were present at the opening, to see their framing and lighting…
A reversal of roles for the star TV presenter who likes to be behind the frame,
while his main job for the past 30 years has been more in front of the frame. This never prevented him “from observing the world from (his) beginnings”.
He adds that “if one day someone remembers it, a person, a!, says: “Well, he was my grandfather and look how he was dressed in 2022″… This will mean that I achieved something…”.
The 150 photos of the exhibition “Venetian Looks” are to be discovered at the Palais Vendramin Grimani in Venice until April 2, 2023.
