Nikki Haley beats Trump in the primaries in Washington DC – Jornal OPaís

The former governor of South Carolina, Nikki Haley, obtained, on Sunday, the first victory in the Republican primary elections once morest former president Donald Trump (2017-2021), in the capital of the United States, Washington DC.

According to the first projections from television stations CNN and NBC News, the former US representative at the UN obtained 63% of the votes once morest 33% for Trump.

This is a purely symbolic victory, as Washington DC only has 16 delegates out of the 2,429 the country has. But it arrives before “Super Tuesday”, which might decide the choice of presidential candidates, with a repeat of the duel between Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Joe Biden becoming increasingly likely.

These elections, in 15 states and one territory, might be decisive for both parties for the Republican Party, which chooses this “Super Tuesday” (as this big electoral day is called) 874 delegates (36%) of the 2,429 that in July convention will choose the candidate for the November presidential elections.

On this day, voters from 15 states and one territory will vote: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont and Virginia, and the territory of Samoa American.

In the Democratic Party, Biden has practically no opponents for this “Super Tuesday”, and he is expected to easily beat Dean Phillips and Marianne Williamson once more, following four primary elections in which he has already collected 449 delegates, once morest none of the other two.

In the Republican Party, Trump arrives at “Super Tuesday” with an advantage of 122 delegates (77.2%) once morest 24 delegates (15.2%) for Haley.
