The Spriet family’s vacation in Croatia, from Deinze, in the north of the country, turned into a nightmare. During a long hike in Paklenica National Park, 6-year-old Thiault, the youngest child in the family, grabbed a branch from a river. What he hadn’t seen was that an Ammodyte Viper was clinging to it. This viper is considered by many to be the most dangerous in Europe.

Thibaut was then bitten on the hand. Quickly, his parents understood that the situation was serious. Fortunately, the boy’s dad had a good reflex and took a picture of the animal. A good decision since an hour following the bite, Thibaut was taken by ambulance to the hospital in Zadar.

Fortunately, poison control acted just before the poison reached the area of ​​the little boy’s heart. Five days following the events, Thibaut was transferred to hospital in Split.

He gives his news

“We heard our son scream! I didn’t see it, but my wife was able to see the snake, mouth wide open, fangs clearly visible! Seeing the photo, the person told us not to panic, but I understood that it was serious. »

Fortunately, the little boy is doing much better. The venom was stopped just before reaching the heart. “I feel better, I can get up to go play…”

The family hopes to return to Belgium this week.
