LR Dorner: Marksman Richard Zechmeister and professional soccer player Matthias Braunöder were unable to attend the “Night of Sports” and were able to receive their awards
The “Night of Sports” took place as early as May, honoring successful personalities from Burgenland’s sporting events of the year 2022, who had previously been chosen by a specialist jury. Two athletes who were not able to be present at the time to receive their awards were now honored afterwards by the State Councilor for Sport Heinrich Dorner: marksman Richard Zechmeister received the award in the “Team of the Year” category. The man from St. Georg won the title in the mixed team competition with Sylvia Steiner from Salzburg at the Air Pistol World Championships in Cairo and was also successful in individual national championships. Professional soccer player Matthias Braunöder was voted “promoter of the year” by the expert jury. The 21-year-old Krensdorfer switched from SV Sigleß to Wiener Austria, made it into the first team there and was named the best “Newcomer 2022” in the Bundesliga. He played from U-15 to U-21 (currently) in all ÖFB youth teams and was captain of the U-17 selection at the EM 2019.
“The awards presented as part of the ‘Night of Sports’ are intended to bring sport in Burgenland, but especially the athletes, to the front of the curtain. We also want to pay them our respect and say ‘thank you’ for what they do for Sportland Burgenland. With the support of the sports pool and the help of independent journalists, we choose the athlete of the year and also present the promoted team, the coach and the team of the year,” said Heinrich Dorner, State Councilor for Sport, emphasizing the importance of recognition of this kind: “But I would also like to thank you at the sports pool, which raises large financial resources from the economy to support successful athletes. Together we can create framework conditions that are the prerequisite for top sporting performance.”
