Night Closure and Ecological Transformation of R0 Ring Road: A Guide to Avoiding Traffic and Discovering the Bois de Hal Ecoduct

Concretely, the R0 will be closed between the Hall interchange and the Ittre interchange in both directions, from 9 p.m. this Saturday evening until 9 a.m. the next day. Motorists are advised to avoid the western ring as much as possible and the area around the A8/E429 linking Tournai to Halle and to favor, if possible, the eastern ring, towards Waterloo and Tervuren.

The motorway to Tournai will however be accessible for traffic coming from Brussels, and vice versa. There will be no traffic possible from the A8 towards Ittre and Charleroi. The Wauthier-Braine interchange will also be almost completely closed, with the exception of the access ramp to the ring (outside) towards Ittre. It will also not be possible to join the ring in the direction of Hal and the capital from the Ittre interchange.

During the night closure, local traffic will be carried out in both directions via the N28. The Vlasmarktdreef bridge will be demolished to gradually make way, by 2025, for the Bois de Hal ecoduct, which the R0 currently cuts into two parts.

This new infrastructure, financed by Flanders, should make it possible to increase the habitat of the animals in this nature reserve and to facilitate their crossing. The bridge will be a combination of a large unpaved green area (65 meters wide) for the animals and a cycle and footpath next to it (5 meters wide), which will thus allow cyclists and walkers to cross the ring safely.
