The Nigerien Head of State Mohamed Bazoum began this Monday, March 20, 2023, a friendly and working visit to Togo where he had a first one-on-one meeting with his Togolese counterpart Faure Gnassingbé.

During this interview, which will then be extended to ministerial delegations, the two personalities discussed several subjects, in particular economic and commercial exchanges between the two countries, as well as the security situation in the sub-region and continental issues.

During his stay in Togo, Mohamed Bazoum paid a visit to the Autonomous Port of Lomé for the launch of the second phase of the extension works of the container terminal, Lomé Container Terminal (LCT). This work aims to increase the terminal’s capacities to guarantee the best quality standards in terms of services provided, operational productivity and fluidity of operations.

It should be noted that Togo is a strategic partner of Niger for which it provides port services for a growing volume of imports and exports.

“Our two peoples, friends and brothers, maintain historical relations nourished by the diversity of exchanges and the many mixings. During this official visit, we will notably discuss the strengthening of our bilateral cooperation and topics of common interest,” said Faure Gnassingbé.

The information shows that the total tonnage passing through the Autonomous Port of Lomé to this Sahelian country has increased in value and percentage in recent years.

The Nigerien leader will also meet the large Nigerien community living in Togo, because apart from the long tradition of commercial exchanges, the two countries also maintain significant mixing of their populations.
