The Nigerian team validated its ticket for the 2022 Women’s Basketball World Cup thanks to its 73-69 victory over the Malians, this February 13, 2022 in Belgrade, in a qualifying tournament. The French had already qualified since Friday, as had the Chinese.
No feat for the Malians in qualifying for the 2022 Basketball World Cup, this February 13 in Belgrade. Djeneba N’Diaye and her teammates had to beat the Nigerians very clearly to ensure they finished among the top three teams (out of four) in Group B, in the qualifiers for the next Women’s World Cup.
Instead, they lost 73-69 to D’Tigress who had already dominated them (70-59) in the final of the last African Nations Championship (Women’s AfroBasket 2021). The fault in particular of a very bad third quarter time (9-22).
Nigeria as the only African team at the 2022 World Cup
For Nigeria, winner of France 67-65 on Friday, this qualification tournament in Belgrade ends on a high note. The reigning triple African champions will bravely defend their chance in Australia, during the final phase scheduled for September 22 to October 1. They will be the only representatives of Africa there.
