Nicole Scherzinger (46) reflects on the death of Liam Payne on Instagram. The two met each other a long time ago through ‘X-Factor’ and with a number of photos she looks back on the special time she experienced with the former One Direction singer.

Nicole was on the jury of the American band at the time of the formation of One Direction X-Factor. Together with Simon Cowell, among others, she helped found the band. The singer guided the band as a mentor until the end in 2015.
Below the photos, the former Pussycat Dolls singer looks back on the time she worked closely with Liam. “I will forever cherish the time we shared together fifteen years ago. When One Direction was born, until just a few weeks ago,” she wrote. Nicole calls it a ‘privilege’ to have worked with him recently. “We shared the same love and passion for music and I will forever remember the meaningful and joyful conversations we had.”
The singer says she has difficulty coping with his death. “But I am grateful to have met your kindest heart, sweet soul and character.” According to Nicole, Liam brought ‘so much joy, light and laughter’ into the lives of his loved ones and she says she will miss her friend and carry him in her heart. “My thoughts and prayers are with your family.”
Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, who wrote the music for the Broadway musical Sunset Blvd. composes in which Nicole currently plays, reports that Nicole contacted him on the day of Liam’s death. “On the Wednesday he died, she was still sending him text messages,” he said in an interview with Billboard. After she heard that he had died, she still appeared on stage. “The fact that she even did the show is crazy.”
Liam, 31, died on October 16 after falling from the third floor of the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires. The exact circumstances are still being investigated. A preliminary investigation concluded that Liam died as a result of the fall. An initial toxicology report showed that he had several drugs in his system at the time of his death.
