“Venezuelan military family is being threatened via WhatsAppto all officials, via WhatsApp they are threatening the police familyby Whatsapp they are threatening street leadersfrom the community, through WhatsApp they are threatening anyone who does not speak out in favor of fascism,” said the president at an event with Chavista youth.
Maduro asked his followers the “voluntary, progressive and radical withdrawal” of the applicationand proposed other alternatives for communicating such as Telegram.
“I am going to break ties with WhatsApp, because Whatsapp is being used to threaten Venezuelaand then I’m going to delete my Whatsapp from my phone forever, little by little I’ll transfer my contacts to Telegram, to WeChat (…) it is necessary to do itsay no to WhatsApp, WhatsApp out of Venezuela,” he added.
Maduro thus adds the messaging application, from the North American Meta, to the Chinese social network TikTok and the American Instagram, which are, as he said this Sunday, the main instruments “that multiply hatred and fascism” in the country.
