Nicolas Maduro I arrive this Monday to Managua to attend the inauguration of the President of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, who was re-elected for a fourth consecutive term in a controversial November 2021 election.

We extend our congratulations to the Nicaraguan people for the exemplary electoral process they lived through in November, “said Maduro upon landing at the Augusto César Sandino airport.
Ortega won last November in an election in which his main political rivals did not participate because, in the previous months, the authorities dissolved three parties and arrested more than 40 opposition leaders, including seven presidential candidates, including the independent Cristiana Chamorro , the favorite, according to polls, and daughter of former Nicaraguan President Violeta Chamorro.
Maduro, who was received with honors, he claimed to arrive in Nicaragua with a spirit of solidarity, and stressed that the inauguration of Daniel Ortega “demonstrates the vitality of Nicaraguan democracy.”
The president highlighted the unity of the two countries “within the framework of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of our America (ALBA) and Petrocaribe.
The last time Maduro left Venezuela was in September 2021, when he attended the meeting of heads of state of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac) held in Mexico.
