Nicolás Maduro, the ruler of Venezuela, appointed Pedro Tellechea as People’s Power Minister for Oil on Tuesday night, following the resignation of Tareck El Aissami amid a corruption scandal at PDVSA.
Tellechea is also in charge of the State oil company, PDVSA, and previously served as President of the Petrochemical industry of Venezuela, SA (Pequiven), reported the Presidential Press department.

Maduro released the news on Twitter, where he reported that following holding a meeting with Tellechea in the Miraflores Presidential Office, he had made the appointment “within the framework of the transformation process that the industry is undergoing. Maximum Efficiency Partner!”.
Tellechea has a degree in Military Sciences and Arts and a Mechanical Engineer, he held functions as General Manager of the Mixed Company Methanol de Oriente, Metor SA; he was President of the Venezuelan Aluminum Industry CA, and was in charge of Pequiven, since September 2020.
