Nico Hulkenberg (Aston Martin F1 Team) finished the free run of the 2022 F1 Bahrain Grand Prix in 17th fastest time.
Nico Hulkenberg, who was contacted Thursday morning to replace Sebastian Vettel, who was infected with the new coronavirus, arrived in Bahrain at midnight. For free practice on the first day, it was a top priority to feel comfortable with the AMR22, which had just been seat-matched for the first time.
Nico Hulkenberg, who boarded the AMR22 with car number 27, mightn’t waste his time. But his early progress was interrupted following Esteban Ocon’s bodywork splattered right in front of him.
When the session resumed, Nico Hulkenberg ran a total of 23 laps in FP1 and recorded the best lap of 1’35.815, which was 14th.
In the FP2 session, experienced Nico Hulkenberg approached the benchmark of his teammate Lance Stroll.
With soft tires and medium tires, he completed a total of 28 laps in the entire session, and his best time was 1’34.061, which was the 17th fastest time. He gave himself a great platform to build ahead of qualifying.
“I think it was promising for me today. It was important to get used to the car,” said Nico Hulkenberg.
“I talked to Sebastian yesterday and got feedback and insights from him, and it’s always good to be ready for that before jumping into the car.”
“But I was particularly surprised at how different the feel of the tires and the braking process were.”
“But I’m happy that I felt in the car and that I was able to drive more comfortably.”
“There is always more room and we will continue to strive for progress. This weekend will be a good challenge and I will enjoy every lap in the car.”
