Aston Martin F1 Nico Hulkenberg finished 17th in the 2022 F1 opening round Bahrain Grand Prix qualifying.
Nico Hulkenberg arrived in Bahrain on Thursday night in a hurry to replace Sebastian Vettel, who was infected with the new coronavirus. He only did three hours of practice on his first drive, the AMR22, but set a 17th fastest time in qualifying, surpassing regular driver Lance Stroll.
Nico Hulkenberg has played a role as a substitute without breaking the car. He said he would enjoy the F1 car race for the first time in two years, although he was undeniably unprepared.
“Of course, we’re not happy with 17th, but we’re happy with our personal bells,” commented Nico Hulkenberg.
“Given my very limited experience in the car, I was able to put together some clean laps without making mistakes. This year the fields are very close and hindering Q2. It was a small margin. “
“The real challenge for me will start tomorrow. I haven’t raced in an F1 car for almost two years. I’m not too prepared to run wheel-to-wheel with other cars and do tire management and more. Not done, but I’m looking forward to racing at AMR22 tomorrow and I’ll enjoy every lap in the car. “
