Nick Kyrgios comments on his doubles victory in Atlanta

Nick Kyrgios said it was interesting for him to play in two matches on the same day. The Australian player was also happy that he and his friend Thanasi Kokkinakis were able to win their first doubles title at the Atlanta Open.

Last Sunday, Kyrgios and Kokkinakis beat duo Rajeev Ram and Jack Sock 6-4, 6-7(7), 10-2 to advance to the Atlanfa final. In the doubles final, the Australian duo then beat Jason Kubler and John Peers 7-6 (4), 7-5.

27-year-old Kyrgios is now Atlanta champion not only in singles [il l’a été en 2016, non pas cette année], but also in duplicate. It was in 2016 that Nick Kyrgios won the singles title in Atlanta following defeating American John Isner in the final.

“Obviously Atlanta is a special place for me. I won the singles title here [en 2016] and now I also have it twice. The crowd is amazing and it was another good experience to play two matches in one day, and also to win a title,” Kyrgios said, according to the ATP website.

. “Me and Kokky were pretty resilient and obviously there’s no singles for me this week, but confidence is at its peak in doubles,” he added.

Kyrgios and Kokkinakis win their second title together in 2022

At the start of the season, Kyrgios and Kokkinakis became Grand Slam champions by winning the doubles title at the Australian Open.

Kyrgios and Kokkinakis are close friends on and off the court, and Kokkinakis was also very happy to have been able to win titles with his good friend. “Thrilled to have won the Atlanta doubles title with Nick.

It’s always a pleasure to play with him. It’s the second title of the year (for us) and I think we are improving. It was a great week spent here, a good way to start the summer [américain] in Atlanta and in view of the US Open.

And hopefully we can keep going,” Kyrgios’ pair commented. Kyrgios was also scheduled to play in the singles tournament in Atlanta, but later pulled out of the competition due to a knee problem.

He is expected to return to singles action at the Citi Open in Washington this week. His first opponent will then be Marcos Giron. Kyrgios has had success in Washington in the past as he even won the title in 2019.
