Nick de Vries, passport problem hinders preparation for F1 Singapore GP[F1-Gate.com]

Nick de Vries could replace Alex Albon at Williams at the F1 Singapore Grand Prix, but was unable to do simulator work due to passport issues.

This week, Nick de Vries tested a year-old F1 car with Alpine F1 Team, one of the 2023 driver candidates, at the Hungaroring.

But then Nick de Vries was unable to fly to the UK for simulator testing prior to Singapore. One passport was at the embassy to obtain a visa for a flight to Japan, and the second passport had expired.

Last year, Britain banned EU citizens from entering the country with just their national ID cards as part of Brexit rule changes.

“Our trip to the UK has been canceled and we are going home instead,” Nick de Vries revealed on social media.

Williams regular Alexander Albon is still recovering from complications from recent appendicitis surgery, and most insiders say Nick de Vries still has a shot at a second straight race with Williams. I agree that

“I feel pretty good, I’m fine,” Alexander Albon said last week in a video he posted on his social media.

“Obviously I had a bit of a problem on Saturday but the doctors did a great job and I am very grateful that I was out of the hospital healthy by Tuesday.”

“Since then I’ve been in Monaco and I’ve been able to get around. The goal is to be ready by Singapore, but it’s going to be tough. It’s one of the toughest races we do, so it’s easy. No, but let’s aim high and see what happens.”

Nick de Vries, meanwhile, remains a potential teammate to Yuki Tsunoda at AlphaTauri in 2023.

AlphaTauri’s Yuki Tsunoda’s press release on his new contract for 2023 did not mention Pierre Gasly, who has already signed a contract for 2023 but is hotly linked to a move to Alpine.
