Nick de Vries “I pressed the wrong brake balance switch” / Williams F1 Italian GP qualifying[F1-Gate.com]

Nick de Vries (Williams) finished qualifying for the 2022 F1 Italian Grand Prix in 13th place.

Nick de Vries is set to make his F1 debut after being hastily recruited from Williams as a replacement for Alexander Albon, who suffered from appendicitis before FP3 at Monza. In qualifying, his team-mate Nicholas Latifi was eliminated in Q1, but he put in a great performance to advance to Q2.

After setting the 13th fastest lap on the first run of Q2, he made a mistake in Turn 4 and his final attempt fell through.

Nick de Vries said that as he continued to adapt to the layout of Williams’ system, he accidentally hit a switch on the steering wheel that changed the brake balance.

“First of all, I feel sorry for Alex. I wish him good health and a speedy recovery. De Vries commented.

“I think I did a good lap, especially the second lap in Q1, which was pretty good, but I still felt like there was more to it than that.”

“We made some changes in the first run of Q2, but it didn’t work. The tire temperatures were compromised in the traffic.”

“I hit a switch on the last run and the brake balance was 1.5 per cent backwards, which caused me to lose control of the rear at Turn 4.”

“I’m a little disappointed about that, but I think we’re allowed to accept this anyway.”

Nick de Vries says he felt inconsistent in his ability to push the Williams car.

“I think it was over 100 per cent in some corners. It wasn’t perfect with some small mistakes and lockups,” said Nick de Vries.

“There were some corners where I was a little bit behind.

“I couldn’t do that, but 13th is not a bad result.”
