PHILADELPHIA — Phillies right fielder Nick Castellanos makes no secret that wants a world series ringand he is doing everything in his power to fulfill that dream.
On Thursday night, in Game 4 of the National League Division Series against the Braves, Castellanos became the first player in American and National League history with consecutive postseason games with multiple home runs.
Castellanos’ power display against Atlanta right-hander Spencer Strider began in the fourth inning, when he threw out the first pitch he saw, a hanging slider, with one out to tie the score.
Castellanos’ solo homer with two outs in the sixth inning not only extended Philadelphia’s lead to 3-1, but also knocked Strider out of the game, and a frenzy gripped the crowd of 45,831 at Citizens Bank Park. Upon returning to the dugout, Castellanos received a standing ovation and came out to greet the local fans, among whom was his son Liam.
Stider’s 100 mph fastball that Castellanos hit was the fastest pitch he has homered against in his career.
