Nick Cannon gets candid about his mental health after recent diagnosis

Nick Cannon has shared details of his mental health journey, revealing that he was recently diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder.

While speaking to People during the Los Angeles Mission’s Thanksgiving celebration, the Masked Singer host emphasized the importance of embracing his diagnosis to better understand himself and help others.

Cannon said, “I still don’t understand it all the way, but I kind of always wanted to get tested.”

Having previously been diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia, he added, “I’ve always known I’m neurodivergent, but now I’m learning to accept and use this diagnosis as a tool for self-improvement.”

According to Yahoo!, Cannon first disclosed his diagnosis on the November 8 episode of the Counsel Culture podcast while explaining his identities with “markers” of the disorder.

He stated, “I’ve taken the power away from the term ‘narcissism’ by understanding it. I embrace mental health and therapy in such a strong way.”

As per the publication, while focusing on his personal growth, Cannon balances a busy family life as a father of 12.

Additionally, while speaking about his Thanksgiving plans, he described visiting multiple homes to celebrate with his children.

“It’s complicated, but every house has something special, sweet potato pie, fried turkey. By the end of the day, I’m full and grateful.”

Furthermore, looking ahead to December, Cannon shared his plans to take his children to snowy destinations, including Aspen, Santa’s Village, and Big Bear.

He added, “All the kids want to go to the snow, so we’re making it happen,” as per the outlet.

Dr. Carter, ⁢thank ⁢you for being⁢ here.

**Dr. Carter:** It’s my pleasure to be here. I think it’s incredibly important⁤ to have these conversations.

**Host:** Absolutely. Nick Cannon has ⁤been⁤ very open about his struggles, saying he’s still trying to understand the ⁣diagnosis himself. What can you tell us about‍ narcissistic personality disorder and how it might manifest in someone’s life?

**Dr. Carter:** Narcissistic ⁣personality disorder is a complex condition characterized by a deeply ingrained‍ pattern of grandiosity, a need for admiration, and a lack‌ of empathy. People with NPD often have a very inflated sense of self-importance and believe they are superior⁤ to others.⁣ They might crave constant praise and attention and have difficulty handling criticism.

**Host:**⁢ Cannon discussed wanting to use his experience to‌ help others.⁤ How important‌ is it for public figures to speak openly about mental health challenges?

**Dr. Carter:**

It’s incredibly⁣ valuable. When someone like Nick Cannon shares their story, it helps ⁢to destigmatize mental illness and encourages others to seek help. It shows them they’re not⁣ alone and that recovery is possible.

**Host:**‌ What would you‌ say ‍to someone who is struggling with similar issues but ⁢may be hesitant to seek professional help?

**Dr. Carter:** I would encourage them ⁤to ‍reach out. There is⁣ no ⁤shame in asking for help, and therapy can provide incredibly valuable tools and support‍ for managing NPD symptoms and improving relationships. It takes ‍courage to acknowledge these struggles, but it’s the first step ⁢toward a healthier and ⁣happier life.

**Host:** Dr. Carter, thank you for your‍ insights and for bringing attention to this ⁣important topic.

**Dr. Carter:** Thank you for having me.
